We run around 200 - 250 head of Dorper sheep at this time on a self-replacing basis so apart from new seed stock which we introduce from time to time the animals we know the genetics of the lambs (so at times supply will run out due to demand). These animals are a South African Breed the unusual feature of moulting its short wool and hair coat naturally in spring, alleviating the need for shearing, crutching or mulesing. Our grass fed lamb is rotationally grazed, with our mobs of cattle and chickens also grazing the same paddocks on a rotational basis. This cross grazing cuts down the spread of intestinal parasites, meaning that our sheep and cattle do not need to be wormed as frequently as many commercial mobs, meaning less chemicals used on your food!
